The brassica family of vegetables includes:
broccoli, spinach, cabbage, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, kale, collard
greens, pak choi and kohlrabi. It is one of the healthiest and most nutritious
vegetable groups. Recent research has highlighted its strong anti-cancer
benefits.
A healthy diet should include regular helpings
of brassicas.
Diet Note: Thyroid Warning
People suffering from hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid) who are on
the thyroid thyroxine or iodine, should eat only modest quantities of
brassicas. This is because brassicas may suppress the function of the
thyroid gland. However, modest amounts of brassicas should prove no problem.
