According to most health and weight evidence, a high BMI (30+) leads to a significant increase in weight related disease. Statistically speaking, even a raised BMI (25+) leads to increased health risk.
These risks increase significantly with age, and/or if there are other weight related risk factors present – eg. if you have raised blood pressure, high cholesterol or a family history of weight related disease.
Bottom line: If you are overweight (BMI 25+) it might be a good idea to watch your diet and increase your exercise. If you are obese (BMI 30+) I strongly advise you to see your doctor and ask about your weight loss options.
