Does Body Mass Index (BMI) Measure Body Fat?
No. BMI does not take into account body fat or body fat percentage.
BMI only measures total weight in relation to height.
So a very muscular athlete will have a high (possibly unhealthy) BMI even though he/she may be in perfect health.
But for most people BMI is a very convenient and reasonably accurate measurement of whether we are (a) Underweight; (b) Normal Weight; (c) Overweight; or (d) Obese.
